A larger than usual village lies immediately to the west of the A1 as you pass the signs to Bamburgh and the coast. You can buy provisions at the coop and it is very convenient for both the coastal attractions and travelling west towards the Cheviot hills. There is a nearby railway station on the north east line to Edinburgh.

Belford High Street

Before the A1 by-pass was built, Belford stood on the Great North Road and was a much busier place than it is now. This image shows the High Street looking south. The Northumberland Coast Path and St Oswald's Way long distance paths both pass along this street.
