Elsdon church, Saint Cuthberts

  Just in case there should be anydoubt about the origin of this church the notice board states quite clearly the debt owed to St Cuthbert. As with All Saints at Rothbury this church is reputed to have been much larger than it is now.

A blocked tower arch might well be 12th century as are the western responds of the arcade.

Substantial restoration work was undertaken during the 19th dentury, in 1837 when the south porch was added and then in 1877 further work was undertaken.
