Northumberland Coast.

For the purposes of this website we have included everything to the east of the A1 north as "coast". The physical distance from the A1 to the beaches can be quite small but sometimes the roads are small, winding and not condusive to being rushed!

Our favourite places?

Alnmouth. A lovely small bay with the village and pubs within easy walking distance. Parking by the golf course is right next to the beach and only £1.50. Very close to Alnwick and the A1 north so easy access.

Craster. Picture perfect small port with the occasional fishing boat. The coast around here is quite rocky and windswept but you have the lovely walk along the coast to Dunstanburgh Castle.

Bamburgh and especially the beach itself. Parking alongside the coastal road is free but we usually pay the £2 charge and park in the golf course car park ( just past the Armstrong cottages on the southern edge of Bamburgh). The beach is so large that you rarely feel crowded here. There are also great views out to the Farne Islands.Bamburgh is pleasant to stroll around but does get very busy and parking can be a nightmare unless you use the castle car park and walk in.

Seahouses. Worth it for the fish and chips alone.

Warkworth. The castle and views along the river make it worthwhile.

alnmouth. The pretty village along the coast just a short distance from Alnwick. image credit on the alnmouth page.

Bamburgh beach.Sometimes the sands seem just too large here...they go on forever.
