Roughting Linn, cup and ring marks

Location:Just a short way outside Lowick. Look for the white bungalow ( house name "blue house") and turn left. Proceed about a mile or so down narrow road and the entrance is on your right hand side. If you go to far you will come to the signpost for Roughting Linn Farm maybe just 30 yards or so further on.

You can actually just see the boulder from the road. The first picture below shows the entrance way.

Roughting refers to the sound made by the nearby waterfall - like a bellowing

and Linn is a pool.

References: Stan Beckensall and his work " Northumberland's prehistoric rock carvings"

Tragically he says " Part of it has been quarried away and there is a big wedge of rock missing".

A burial mound was also recorded to the north ...the mound has now gone.
